From Garage Beginnings to Industry Leader
In 1997, starting a 100% black-owned company in the mining supply industry was a bold step. With limited capital but unwavering determination, CJ Bearings & Castings began in a family garage, selling bearings to local mining customers.
Quality products, fair pricing, and reliable service quickly built trust. As demand grew, the company expanded to Booysens Reserve near Gold Reef City — a central hub for serving South Africa’s mining industry.
From those humble beginnings, CJ Bearings & Castings invested in its first lathes, moving into machining and eventually establishing a fully-fledged workshop. What started small has grown into a respected name in mining solutions.
Establishing our Focus
CJ Bearings and Castings (Pty) Ltd is a proudly South African company with deep roots in the mining industry. Founded in 1997 and rebranded in 2004, we’ve become a trusted supplier of castings, buffers, hopper spares, tipping dollies, and locomotive components.
Our legacy continues under the leadership of Shazia Osman, who honours the vision of her late father, Chris Osman, while driving innovation and growth. With over 45 years of combined industry expertise, our team delivers unmatched technical insight and quality.
In 2011, we patented the Safe Coupler, a breakthrough in mining safety. All our castings meet BS3100 standards, ensuring durability and reliability in demanding environments.

Through the dedication of our experienced team of 40 — many with over 15 years of service — CJ Bearings & Castings has grown into a proudly black-owned engineering company built on honesty, integrity, and quality.
In 2003, we purchased our own premises, and by 2014 we achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification (Certificate No. QSE0574/2013), ensuring that every product meets the highest standards. We also hold a Level One B-BBEE rating, reflecting our commitment to empowerment and excellence.

We supply wheel and buffer castings to nearly the entire sector, while repairing and manufacturing hopper wheels, axles, and locomotive wheel sets to world-class standards.
Our reputation is built on delivering on time, at fair prices, and going the extra mile to meet urgent customer needs — even working through the night when required.
Our reputation is built on reliability. Known throughout the mining sector for quality workmanship and dedicated service, we even operate our own fleet of trucks to ensure safe, timely collection and delivery.
